A major key to getting better customer service with your commercial loan broker or with other businesses is simply – “Ask for it.”
Many people miss major opportunities in life because they don’t ask for what they want. Instead, they expect differing things from others and don’t communicate it. It’s like they think the other person should know what they want.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Unless you are a certified mind reader, and there is no such job occupation the last time I checked, it is unlikely that people are going to be reading your mind.
My wife and I have been married 27 years. We are both reasonably intelligent and we think of ourselves as good communicators. We have been shocked at times for completely missing what the other one wants. We have made assumptions and have been completely off the mark.
As this relates to getting better customer service, so many times people expect great customer service and they don’t get it. This often results in feeling upset.
The major key is to ask for what you want. Ask for great customer service.
Why? – because you are more likely to get it.
In business “the squeaky wheel gets oiled” – meaning the customer who asks for – even demands good customer service is most likely to be the one to get the most attention and the quickest attention.
People get busy in running a business. This is not meant to be an excuse. Being consistent in giving great customer service is very important. But be sure to ask for what you want – be direct that you want great customer service.
How to ask for good customer service?
Ask politely, yet with the attitude you are confident you will get it. You could say, “I would like great customer service. Will you give that to me?"
Then you can spell out what you want. For example, if it has to do with working with a commercial mortgage broker:
–I would like my loan to be processed in a very timely manner.
–I would like my calls to be returned promptly.
–I would like to be offered very competitive rates and terms.
–Please carefully check and double check for accuracy on all figures as well as other information you send me.
–Please continually update me on the progress of my loan.
Now, if after you ask for good customer service you are promised it, yet don’t receive it, then you don’t need to be so polite. You can demand good customer service.
One additional thought. Most people like to give. When we ask for what we want, some of the best qualities in those we ask are activated. Of course we are talking about wants that are legal, moral and ethical.
Ask for what you want. Not only will it help you in business – but it can also be helpful in improving your personal relationships, family relationships, friendships – as well as could very well lead to more happiness.
